Economic Empowerment Advocate
Position Summary
The Economic Empowerment Advocate position exists to facilitate the successful implementation of the economic justice project (Women Improving Their Tomorrow, WITT) for victims of domestic violence. Position exists to facilitate all economic stability services to survivors including: financial literacy, economic advocacy, financial safety planning, and all services related to economic advancement and empowerment and participate in all trainings, conference calls and webinars. Position ensures meeting all deliverables and/or grant requirements as well as ensuring the achievement of goals and objectives. Additionally, position exists to uphold the YWCA of Palm Beach County as an expert in the area of domestic violence and to build partnerships, collaborations, and special initiatives surrounding prevention and to the promote ending violence against women and children and advocate for such throughout Palm Beach County.
Position Duties & Functions
· Facilitation of Direct Services
o Assists survivors of domestic violence with attaining their employment goals, identifying and securing affordable housing, and connecting them to economic resources in the community
o Assists survivors with educational goals such as literacy classes, GED classes and testing, and ESOL
o Provides survivors with financial literacy through the Allstate financial curriculum and referral and information on the Earned Income Tax Credit, microloans, and micro enterprises annually
o Participates in mandatory trainings annually and achieves at least 16 hours of training every year between July 1 and June 30
o Ensures the continued facilitation of new program development
o Monitors data security and ensures consistent implementation daily
o Facilitates existing partnerships, collaborations, and relationships in the community with agencies or providers to provide resources to survivors and conducts extensive outreach to build new relationships (e.g. Dress for Success, career centers, etc.)
o Facilitates of at least 6 educational workshops for survivors residing in Harmony House or participating in Outreach annually
o Maintains accurate statistical data to measure the success of the economic justice programming and activities
· Ensure Women Improving Their Tomorrow (WITT) economic justice programming is viewed as the expert on economic justice for victims of domestic violence in Palm Beach County and remains a well-established and well-known program by:
o Collaborating and partnering with providers, agencies, businesses and/or networking in the community including participating on community teams aimed at addressing domestic violence (e.g. Domestic Violence Council, Victims’ Rights Coalition, etc.)
o Communicating with the Director of Domestic Abuse Programs and Chief Programs Officer consistently and as needed
o Attending all training, webinars, and conference calls and completing surveys as required by grant deliverables
o Maintaining consistent themes in line with YWCA Branding by posting to promote initiatives through multiple media platforms such as YouTube, Podcasts, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. and ensuring an individual as back-up when unavailable or out of work
o Promoting and advancing YWCA USA advocacy initiatives including inclusion and gender issues in the areas of domestic violence
o Attending weekly staff meetings facilitated by the Director of Domestic Abuse Programs to ensure building capacity of all domestic violence staff
o Obtaining at least 16 hours of training annually related to domestic violence or related training
o Maintaining accurate daily logs, monthly report requirements, and all documentation related to primary prevention
Skills & Abilities
· Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Must be prompt; timely and responsive to needs of fast-paced organization
· Must be able to handle confidential information discretely
Education
· Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Psychology, or other human services related field
Experience
· One-year experience working with victims of domestic violence and knowledge of the economic barrier’s survivors encounter
Starting Salary Range: $35,000-$45,000
